Silicone, Tangit, Thread Tape & Tile Grout: Sealants and Adhesives Guide with Kenyan Prices

Silicone Sealant

Silicone seals joints that must stay flexible and waterproof: around sinks, basins, baths, shower trays, windows and glass. Use clear or white to match, and black for dark surfaces. Silicone does not take paint well and is not a glue for pipes.

Tangit (PVC Solvent Cement)

Tangit welds PVC pipes and fittings together chemically. Clean and dry both parts, apply to both, push together and hold. It does not work on PPR or HDPE: PPR is heat-fused and HDPE uses compression fittings.

Thread Sealing: Tape, Hemp and Boss White

Threaded joints (GI, brass, taps and male/female adapters) need sealing. PTFE thread tape is wrapped clockwise on the male thread. Hemp with Boss White paste is the traditional seal for GI pipe and larger threads.

Glues, Tile Adhesive, Grout and Waterproof Cement

• Super glue: small, quick repairs.
• Araldite (epoxy): strong bonds on metal, stone and hard plastics.
• Granite adhesive: for fixing granite and heavy stone.
• Grout: fills the gaps between tiles. Use tile spacers for even joints.
• Waterproof cement: for wet areas, tanks and bathrooms.
