1 HP is about 0.75 kW. Motor nameplates in Kenya use both. Choose a motor slightly more powerful than the machine needs: an undersized motor overheats and burns out; a heavily oversized one wastes money and electricity.

High Speed vs Low Speed

• High-speed motors are usually 2-pole, running at about 2,900 rpm on Kenya's 50 Hz supply. Common for pumps, fans and hammer mills.
• Low-speed motors are usually 4-pole, running at about 1,450 rpm, with more turning force (torque). Common for belt-driven machines, mixers and compressors.
