A kitchen sink is one of the easiest plumbing jobs to do yourself if the water and drain pipes are already in place. You need the sink, a waste outlet, a trap, a tap, silicone and a few hours.
Quick answer: To install a kitchen sink: (1) mark and cut the worktop opening, (2) fit the tap and the waste outlet to the sink before it goes in, (3) run a bead of silicone and set the sink, (4) connect a 1½" bottle trap to the waste pipe, (5) connect the water supply and (6) test for leaks. Single kitchen sinks start at KSh 1,300 and bottle traps at KSh 150 on Buy More Mall.

Why a trap matters: the water held in the trap blocks sewer smells and small insects from coming up the drain. Never connect a sink straight to the drain without one.
Yes, if you are replacing a sink or the pipes are already in the wall. Call a plumber if you need new supply pipes, the drain is far away or below the sink outlet, or you are fitting a heavy stainless double sink with a table such as the double sink with table used in commercial kitchens.
The old sink leaks at the waste. The tenant buys a single bowl sink with drainer, a 1½" bottle trap, a flexible connector, a pillar tap and a tube of silicone. The old cut-out fits the new sink, so no cutting is needed. Fitting takes about two hours and the parts cost a fraction of a call-out and materials markup.

Seal the waste outlet in the sink, fit a bottle trap and connect it to the 1½" drain with a flexible connector or PVC pipe.
A sanitary or general-purpose silicone sealant that stays flexible and resists water.
Silicone or the supplied rubber washer does the same job for most sink wastes.
It skins in minutes but needs about 24 hours to cure fully.
Kitchen sinks normally use 1½" (40 mm) waste.
