Roll lengths and some units are not stated in the listings; check each product page or ask us before you order.

Which Cable Size for What?

CircuitTypical cable size
Lighting1.0 mm² or 1.5 mm²
Socket outlets2.5 mm²
Instant shower, cooker, water heaterLarger cable (often 4–6 mm²), sized to the appliance rating

The final size depends on the load, the cable length and the breaker. A licensed electrician should design and test every circuit.

Can 1.5mm Cable Be Used for Sockets?

No. Socket circuits carry heavier loads such as irons, kettles and microwaves, and are wired in 2.5 mm² cable. 1.5 mm² is for lighting. Using 1.5 mm² on sockets risks overheating and fire.

Single Core, Twin and Earth, or Flex?

  • Single core: one insulated conductor, pulled through conduit (one each for live, neutral and earth).
  • Twin and earth: live, neutral and earth in one sheath, for surface or clipped runs.
  • Flex (flexible cable): fine-stranded and bendable, for connecting appliances, not for fixed house wiring.
  • Welding cable: very flexible heavy cable for welding leads.

Cable Colours

Current colours are brown (live), blue (neutral) and green/yellow (earth). Older installations used red (live) and black (neutral). Never use green/yellow for anything but earth.

Per Metre or Per Roll?

Buy per metre for repairs and short runs; a roll costs less per metre for a full house. Measure each run from the board to every point, add drops down the walls, then add about 10% for waste.

Safety: house wiring in Kenya must be done by a licensed electrician (EPRA). Switch off at the main switch before any work.

Conduits, boxes, switches and consumer units are in House Wiring Materials Price List; shower wiring is in Instant Shower Price in Kenya.
