Fencing is usually the first job after buying land. This guide shows how to estimate materials for a standard 50x100 ft plot and an acre.
Quick answer: A 50x100 ft plot has a perimeter of 300 ft (about 91 m). A chain link fence with posts, barbed wire on top and labour commonly costs roughly KSh 60,000–150,000 depending on fence height, wire gauge and post type. Barbed-wire-only fencing costs much less.
| Plot | Perimeter |
|---|---|
| 50 x 100 ft | 300 ft ≈ 91 m |
| 100 x 100 ft | 400 ft ≈ 122 m |
| 1 acre (square) | about 835 ft ≈ 255 m |
Divide the perimeter by the roll length shown on the listing (for example 18 m) to get the number of chain link rolls, then add one for gates and waste.

Multiply quantities by the live prices above and add labour for your total.
Roughly KSh 60,000–150,000 for chain link with posts, barbed wire and labour, depending on materials.
About 91 m of fence; divide by the roll length (e.g. 18 m) and add one roll, so about 6 rolls of 18 m.
Barbed wire is cheaper; chain link gives better security and keeps animals out.
5–6 ft is common for homes; 7 ft for more security.
About 2.5–3 m, with braced corner posts.
About 255 m of fence; multiply your per-metre cost by 255.
